Once On This Island Jr (Advanced Musical Theatre Jr)

This highly original and theatrical Caribbean adaptation of the popular fairy tale "The Little Mermaid" garnered eight Tony nominations for its Broadway run, including Best Musical, Book and Score. In almost non-stop song and dance, the show tells the story of Ti Moune, a black peasant girl who rescues and falls in love with Daniel, a wealthy boy from the other side of her island.
Its catchy, contemporary, and Caribbean-flavored score by the Tony® Award-winning songwriting team of Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Ragtime and the animated film Anastasia) includes tender ballads and rousing celebratory numbers for an ensemble cast of strong singers.
Designed for advanced-level performers, Advanced Musical Theatre Jr. (AMT Jr.) is by audition only. Campers will study Once on this Island in depth and give a performance at the end of the session. AMT Jr Camp meets at Roosevelt Middle School, from 8:45am to 2:45pm. To audition, students will prepare a one-minute song and bring their sheet music.
Auditions are April 27, 28, 29, concurrent with auditions for the summer production of Charlotte's Web and All Shook Up.
